The Caribbean Discontinued Perfume :: a new song, a sneak a peek at the CD, and the chance to pre-order and get a digital copy of the album today!

“We dug deeply into Discontinued Perfume. We saw ourselves in it. We saw our friends in it. We asked questions. And then we realized that the very answer to those questions, the very meaning of the album, were in a few words that Michael had said in email. So we put those words on the cover.”

When someone asked me how Adam and I came up with the art for Discontinued Perfume, the fourth record we’ve designed for The Caribbean, that’s what I said. It’s true. We dwell daily in the abstractions of living and feeling and thinking; I like to think we, and every artist on Hometapes, bring the invisible to life. But the act of doing that, of living what we believe, is just as much a craft as it is a philosophy.
The beauty of this record is not only the magic of hearing the music of our friends. It’s us laying in bed in the dark, trying to understand it. It’s Michael, Matt, and Dave writing it in a basement in DC. It’s email threads hundreds of messages long. It’s hauling a projector and a ladder in the rain. It’s the paper, it’s the picture you can barely see in the pockets, it’s the color of the CD. It’s you holding it.
One hard look at the cover art, and you know this record is a journey. Today you can pre-order your copy and get on your way.
To celebrate, we’re releasing a new song from Discontinued Perfume. It features a guest appearance by Hometapes’ own Brad Laner. It premiered on Dangerous Minds this morning.
MP3: The Caribbean “Outskirts” (feat. Brad Laner)
