All Tiny Creatures “An Iris” :: New video by Michinori Saigo
An ode to the urban landscape of Japan and the magic of daydreaming to All Tiny Creatures.
All Tiny Creatures and their debut album Harbors, released by Hometapes this Spring, continue to come alive: on the road, on the turntable, and, now, in moving pictures.
We received this meditation on Japan’s urban landscape just weeks after the earthquake and tsunami sent the country into chaos. Set to All Tiny Creatures’ “An Iris,” the single featuring the vocals of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and incorporating the blue orbs that first made their appearance in the band’s press photo, we were moved by the video’s playful otherworldliness (two adjectives that surely describe All Tiny Creatures). But this was more than a study in shape, color, and mood — inseparable from the video is the place it was made and the friends that made it.
“An Iris” is directed by Michinori Saigo for All Tiny Creatures’ Japanese label Contrarede (also home to All Tiny Creatures’ extended family Volcano Choir and Collections of Colonies of Bees). We are excited to share this video, to let us all gaze across plazas, look down from high windows, and watch the world move around us from the seat of a speeding train. We like knowing that All Tiny Creatures conjures these kinds of daydreams no matter where you are — from Portland, Oregon, to Tokyo, Japan.
Eastern and Central U.S. can be added to that list, as All Tiny Creatures took to the road last week, touring in support of Harbors and joining up with labelmates The Caribbean and Shedding along the way. They continue tomorrow in Knoxville, Tennessee.
